guest blogger – my mom!

It’s been a crazy week for me between the day job and getting ready for the launch of Blogger Girl.  When I told my mom that I didn’t have time to write a blog post this week, she offered to step in as a guest blogger.  I had no idea what to expect but figured an “unexpected blog” was better than no blog at all and so I accepted her generous offer.  See her blog post below along with comments from me in red:

I always look forward to a blog post from my daughter, Meri.  After I read it, I am amazed that she came out of me.  I also feel very special and loved when she refers to me in her blogs.  I was especially flattered to be the inspiration for the mother in her first novel, “Just Friends with Benefits”.  (Even if she did paint me as an overbearing Jewish mother dying for her daughter to get married and give her more grandchildren.)  (You are a *sometimes* overbearing Jewish mother dying to marry me off.  Although to your credit, you have backed off quite a bit lately. I hope you haven’t given up on me!)

You probably don’t know this but Meri was a delight to raise.  (What do you mean “you probably don’t know this”?  Are you suggesting my readers would be surprised that I was a delight to raise?  Ahem, I am a delight now too!  Most of the time.)  However, she did have an issue with biting that lasted way too long.  (I only had 1-5 victims and I was over it by the time I turned 21!!  Seriously, I was probably still under 6 when I stopped the biting. Right?)The only negative comment from teachers was Meri’s incessant talking in class, hence, taking away a shopping spree.  (Yeah, that was mean.  But it worked.)  Nonetheless, she was in the Gifted and Talented Program (“GATE”) in elementary school and graduated college with honors (I always suspected that I only got accepted to GATE  because I was the teacher’s pet, especially since everyone else in the program got upwards of 1300 on the SAT exam and attended Ivy League universities and I, well, didn’t…)

Despite being a very pampered baby sister, Meri has become “Miss Manhattan(Um, I’m not sure about that but thanks…) with two great careers and she’s not afraid to try new experiences.

Now if she would only get married…. (*rolls eyes* But at least she hasn’t given up on me.)

Isn't my mom cute?

Isn’t my mom cute?

Thanks, mom, for stepping in.  I’ll be back with a blog post this Monday with big news about the launch of my third chick lit novel, Blogger Girl!

I love the mother-daughter blog! I say hire that woman to blog with you (and let her know that she can download Thin Rich Bitches for free today in the event that she needs a laugh because the stress of guest blogging was exhausting)!

Glad you liked the post! She doesn’t have a kindle but I will be sure to let her borrow mine when I’m through reading Thin Rich Bitches – I’m sure she’d love it.

I adored Stephanie’s mom in “Just Friends With Benefits,” and since your mom is based on her, I know I’m going to love her, too! She is obviously so proud of the incredible, talented, beautiful, kind and generous woman you have become. This is one of my favorite posts ever!

She would love you as well, Sam. I’m sure of it. She’s already loving Finding Lucas!

What a great post! Love the mother-daughter banter! Might do the same thing with my mom, fantastic idea! 🙂

Thanks Patricia – I hope you enjoy your mom’s post as much as I enjoyed mine 🙂

I believe you may be starting a trend of bloggers who will now have their mothers guest post. You’re on to something. 😉

    • meredithgschorr on July 4, 2013 at 12:47 am

That would be funny if I started a trend! But we must remember who was first 🙂

LOL This is hilarious! I love the she said/she said aspect of it. Did I miss your mom’s name somewhere in the post, Meredith, or is she trying to remain incognito? 🙂 I wanted to tell her that she did a great job, and her post brought a smile to my face.

P.S. It’s sweet that your mom reads your posts every week. I can’t remember the last time my mother read one of mine. Not to say that she isn’t supportive, she just finds the blog thing “confusing.” 🙂

I’m glad the post brought a smile to your face! I forgot to include her name – oops – it’s Susan. And I think part of the reason she reads my blog every week is that she’s hoping I’ll mention dating and stuff and other things I refuse to tell her when we speak 🙂

Super cute post! Gosh, my mom doesn’t even have a computer, so she never reads my posts and if I asked her to guest blog she would just look at me like I was speaking a foreign language!

    • meredithgschorr on July 4, 2013 at 12:52 am

Haha – I never thought of mom as “computer savvy” but I guess it’s all relative 🙂

Meredith, this blog was absolutely HILARIOUS! And you know that line, “You had me at ‘hello’?” Well, YOU had me at the subject line: “Guest Blogger: My Mom”. I mean, who the heck has the courage to give her MOM a world-wide platform so she can spill the beans about what you were like as a child (or a grown-up!). Beautifully done, the humor and the love radiate throughout the piece. I want to read more from your mom! (and from you!)

Aww, what a great post, Mama Meredith! You did raise a wonderful daughter who I have loved getting to know online the past couple of years. She is smart, funny, talented, and sweet, and it seems like she got it from you! 🙂

    Hi Meredith’s Mom!

I had the pleasure of meeting your amazing daughter in NYC last month. I knew instantly that she was amazing because she was raised by such an amazing mom – YOU! Surely, she was the sweetest, brightest, most amazing little girl in the sandbox at school – because YOU taught her good manners. And surely, she ate all of her dinner without complaining, because she is amazing and because YOU are an amazing cook! And I just know that Meredith will meet with amazing success with the launch of her third amazing book because YOU read amazing books to her when she was growing up. Everything Meredith is and will become she owes to YOU – her amazing mom. My amazing mom is reading this comment over my shoulder right now as I type. I, like Meredith, love my amazing mom and hope to be just like my amazing mom when I grow up. I have four amazing children and like to think they are amazing because I am amazing. I hope someday they will tell me I’m right and that I am amazing. I think we women need to check in with each other more often and tell each other just how amazing we are and how amazing life is because we’re together to live this amazing day. I’m ‘kind of sort of’ being silly in this comment section – but I’m also ‘kind of sort of’ telling the truth, too.

Amazing women come from amazing moms.

LOVED the post. LOVED IT. It was [fill in the blank – one word, starts with an “a”].

So glad you loved the post so much and I agree, amazing women come from amazing moms!
