Just Friends With Benefits Gets 4.5 Stars From Chick Lit Plus!

“We all have that someone who got away. But when Stephanie Cohen’s college crush, Craig Hille, seems to take an interest in her, she is determined not to let him get away again. She puts all the effort into segueing their friendship into a real relationship, not letting anything get in the way. This means her job, her friend’s advice, and another great guy. Stephanie is convinced Craig is the one for her, and ignores all the warning signs that Craig just may not be that into her.

“Just Friends with Benefits by Meredith Schorr is an extremely relatable story to all women. Stephanie is a great main character, a fun loving girl who works hard but enjoys a beer and baseball game, who is just trying to find that special someone to settle down with. I loved that I wasn’t quite sure what was up with Craig. I was confused by his behavior right along with Stephanie, and tried to figure him out along the way. My absolute favorite part of this book though had to be the group of friends. Made up of different characters, guys and girls, couples and singles with a variety of different jobs, they reminded me exactly of my friends. They were witty and loud and loving and they gave a perfect oomph to a romance story. I will definitely look forward to reading more from Meredith Schorr.”

—Samantha, Chick Lit Plus

“Just Friends With Benefits is a birdseye view into the life and times of the modern single girl. Stephanie is a character every girl can relate to as she navigates the rocky road to romance. Reading this book feels like a night out with your best girlfriend listening to her spill about her relationship. Author Meredith Schorr strikes just the right tone between hope and anxiety, desire and disappointment. I’m looking forward to reading more of Ms. Schorr’s work in the future.”

—Jill Amy Rosenblatt, author of For Better or Worse and Project Jennifer. www.jillamyrosenblatt.com

“Stephanie is a girl in her early thirties who realizes that she is still hung up on Craig, ‘the one that got away.’ Much against the warnings of her Jewish mother (who is simultaneously Steph’s biggest supporter and harshest critic), her best girlfriend (a feisty, funny, and sometimes jaded chick), and even her closest circle of college friends, Stephanie can’t let him go.

Just Friends With Benefits follows Stephanie as she deciphers mixed messages and crossed signals. What happens in the rare case when a missed opportunity represents itself? Should you leave well enough alone (and continue to wonder ‘what if’), or go for it (and risk changing history forever)? The story — much like any good relationship — has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, and certainly does not leave you hanging.

It would be hard to find a girl who cannot relate to some part of her story. And that, ultimately, is what makes a great leading lady [lady= someone who loves her alcohol and baseball as much as she does her dresses and heels]. Even if you don’t have a ‘what if’ guy, a male best friend, or a supportive boss, you will still “get” Stephanie.

Stephanie is a great character, surrounded by great friends. Schorr created a cast of characters who could be plucked out of any of our lives. Again, what makes this story so relatable is the honest and raw look at a group of friends and all those personalities that contribute to the dynamics of the friendship — the guy who’s obnoxious but lovable, the girl who’s prissy but loyal, the inside jokes, the teasing, the pop-culture references…they all combine to make this a spectacular book.

Meredith Schorr’s debut novel Just Friends With Benefits was fantastic. Seriously, I loved it. Stephanie, the protagonist, is my exact age, so her feelings, her lingo, and even her flashbacks were more than relatable to me. Even more coincidental, she comments that Zooey Deschanel would play her in the movie of her life, an actress that I have been compared to (especially since cutting bangs a few months ago)…Wait, this book is not about me, but sometimes, while reading, it was hard to remember that. —Kelly, Crib Notes www.cribnoteskelly.com

“Meredith writes with wit, candor, humor and vulnerability that illuminates the struggles of dating and relationships. You can feel her pain. Anyone who is single or once was single can relate to this book!” —Nancy Slotnick, dating coach, www.cablight.com and author of Turn Your Cablight On: Get Your Dream Man in 6 Months or Less.

“Reading contemporary romance/chick-lit novel, Just Friends With Benefits is like peeking into 30-something Stephanie Cohen’s diary. We get to witness her love life and all the intimate details (read: mistakes) and she makes plenty of them! All the twists keep the reader wondering to the very end who’s “the one” and who’s just friends. Debut author Meredith Schorr is a natural storyteller, able to make you laugh and cry right along wtih her carefully drawn heroine. Like a good friend, I believed in Stephanie, and I loved Just Friends With Benefits.”
